Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Ad Explains the Thumb Story

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Ad Explains the Thumb Story

We all know the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is coming. After all, the open secret was officially announced at Mobile World Congress 2011, where we had a quick peek and hands-on with the PlayStation -certified Android smartphone. But before we even saw the device, this ad popped up and honestly, it kind of freaked us out. The point is clear - you need thumbs to enjoy the hardware controls of the Xperia Play. So how did the droid get the thumbs? This new ad answers that very question.

Engadget - Is this the creepiest ad ever produced to introduce a new video game console? That's a high bar to pass -- but is it the creepiest ad for a new smartphone? Perhaps. The minute-long spot for Sony Ericsson's upcoming Xperia Play called "The Donor" appears to explain the backstory behind its last ad, relaying the tale of a young gentleman who was clubbing with friends, met an attractive woman, took her home, and woke up the next morning to discover that his thumbs were stone cold gone (notice the dirty, poorly-bandaged stumps on the table as he tells his tale of woe to a local law enforcement official).

Creepy? Dark? We think so too, but at least it got the message across. So if you aren't too disturbed by the ads, look forward to the end of March when the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be available.
