Select LG Optimus Devices Getting Both Gingerbread and ICS [Update]

*Update: As posted on their official Facebook page, it now seems that the LG Optimus 2X will definitely be getting the ICS update, alongside with other "high-end LG smartphones". Local LG representatives have also confirmed that they are working on bringing ICS to Optimus 2X, and that they do not have any specific time frame yet. Given that the Gingerbread update will only come by end of this year, we foresee that the ICS update will only be implemented next year and hopefully in Q1.

*Update: We just received word from local LG representatives that the LG Optimus 2X, 3D and Black will receive the Gingerbread update by the end of this year. However, no specific date is confirmed at the moment.

According to LG's official Facebook, the following handsets, LG Optimus 2X, Optimus 3D and Optimus Black, will finally be getting the long-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in November.

LG - The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.

LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe

This comes just after the announcement that the Korean chaebol has not made a decision whether or not to bring ICS to Optimus 2X. While initial reports mention that the phone will definitely not get the update, it now seem like it might. Here's what LG had to say to Android and Me:

Android and Me -  "LG has contacted us to let us know they have not yet made a decision on whether to bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the Optimus 2X or G2x. LG is still testing Ice Cream Sandwich on those two devices, and the ultimate decision on whether or not these devices will see the update will depend not only on the devices’ ability to handle ICS, but also whether or not the user experience with ICS on these devices will be a good one."

We are still awaiting an official response from local LG representatives regarding the Gingerbread updates, so keep your eyes peeled.
