RIM: BBX Phones Sport Different Design From The Bold Series
Alec Saunders, the Vice President of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development for Research in Motion (RIM) told PCMag.com recently that the company's upcoming BBX phones will look nothing like the Bold series, adding that the BBX phones will look like smaller versions of the BlackBerry Playbook with similar aspect ratios (16:9) and resolution (1024 x 600 pixels).
PCMag.com - "Look, if you build [an app] for the PlayBook, then it will run on BBX. We have maintained aspect ratios, BBX also has the ability to upload multiple dimension graphics … [and the standard resolutions] are the same as PlayBook," he said.
He also shared that the BBX phones will have all the platform features that the PlayBook has at launch, which include native email and BES support. The first BBX phones are expected to arrive early next year.
Will this help RIM in the long run? We certainly hope the new BBX platform will aid RIM in regaining lost ground in areas that the Apple iPhone and Google Android smartphones have now dominated in the global market.
