RapidShare Throttles Downloads
RapidShare has just announced the throttling of its services for free users who will now be facing reduced download speeds for content. After the treatment meted out to MegaUpload, it seems that another file locker site is trying to find a way to get on the right side of the law.
The move is said to be targeted at reducing RapidShare's usage as a platform for piracy. The webiste hopes that the steps taken will drive away abusive traffic and ensure that the service can continue providing paid users with quality performance without the looming threat of legal action from copyright holders.
With MegaUpload being taken down and FileSonic voluntarily shutting down shop, RapidShare is one of the last major file sharing sites still in operation. If you are one for conspiracy theories, slow downloads is a surefire way of driving someone to fork out the cash and pay for the premium service. Is RapidShare abusing its new found monopoly status or are they just trying to stay afloat in troubling times?
