Panasonic Reveals Details About Its First Global Smartphone

Last we heard, Panasonic will be bringing its Android smartphones to European countries next spring as part of its plans to venture into global markets with an aim to sell 7.5 million mobile phones abroad in fiscal 2015. Now, the Japanese firm has unveiled its reference model of the smartphone that it is planning to unleash in Europe. Some of the main characteristics include:

  • An ultra-slim D-shaped design
  • Slim bezel with high viewing quality
  • Quarter HD (QHD) 4.3-inch (OLED) touchscreen
  • Waterproof
  • Dustproof

Panasonic has also made mention of its plans to extend its lineup as well as sell 15 million smartphone units, "including nine million in Europe, Asia, China, and the United States and six million in Japan" in fiscal year 2016. The new Android model is set to make its appearance in Europe in March, and will later expand to the United States and Asia as planned.

Following earlier reports that assemblage of the phone will be done at a group factory in Southeast Asia, Panasonic has announced that it will be making use of an existing factory in Malaysia to manufacture the first global model.
