New Night Vision Tech Slim as Film

Scientists have created a new kind of night vision technology, one that is as slim as film.

"This device can convert any infrared image into a visible image and would weigh no more than a pair of eyeglasses," said Franky So, a scientist at the University of Florida who describes his new night vision technology in a recent article in the journal Advanced Materials that was funded in part by advanced technology powerhouse DARPA.

While today's night vision goggles are big and use lots of power, So's device, based on organic LEDs, promise to be much smaller and use less electricity. Discovery News thinks that it'll take about 18 months for the new technology to scale up to practical use, so you might be seeing in the dark in the near future.
