New and Updated Apps Announced for Nokia Lumia Smartphones

Nokia's first announcement at Mobile World Congress 2012 showcased six new devices, two of which joins the Lumia portfolio while its Nokia 808 PureView got everyone's attention with its 41-megapixel sensor. New products aside, Nokia has also announced updates to apps unique to its Lumia portfolio.

This includes Nokia Reading, a single, integrated hub experience adopting a panorama design to read news, ebooks and audio books. The app also supports offline content viewing and lets you pin dynamic content to the start screen as a Live Tile. Nokia will be focusing on local content for this app, and a future update will let users create their own dynamic magazines from their news feed for easy reading. The app will be available from April 2012.

Nokia's navigation features on the Lumia phones will get two specific upgrades. One of which, is a new app called Nokia Transport that provides door-to-door, underground, tram, suburban train, and bus directions for over 500 cities across 46 countries. With step-by-step directions to the nearest station as well as timetable information on when the next bus or train is arriving for more than 80 cities, Nokia Transport will be available to download from the Windows Phone Marketplace in March.

Nokia Drive, the free voice-guided, turn by turn navigation app will be given full offline use and come with speed limit alerts on its software. The update is slated for a March 2012 availability via the Windows Phone Marketplace.
