Microsoft SkyDrive Now Available on Android

Microsoft today announced the launch of its official SkyDrive app for Android devices. The app can be downloaded on Android devices running 2.3 and up, although Microsoft states that it is designed to work best with Android 4.0. It provides 7GB of free storage space for users.

The company also assures Android users that the same intuitive design of all SkyDrive experiences are kept when developing the SkyDrive app for Android. As such, it is similar to the mobile apps for Windows Phone and Apple iOS. Here's a list of the main features of the SkyDrive app for Android:

  • Access your SkyDrive documents, photos, and other files that people have shared with you
  • View recently used documents
  • Upload multiple photos or videos from your Android device
  • Share files and photos via a link in email or in another app
  • Easily delete or create new folders

Besides Microsoft SkyDrive, there are also other third party cloud storage solutions for you to download on your smartphone. Dropbox, Google Drive and SugarSync provide 5GB storage space when users sign up for a free account. For Apple users, they have iCloud which also offers 5GB free storage space.
