At Least One High-End Phone Expected from Nokia at MWC 2012
Nokia has been keeping a low profile over the last two Mobile World Congress. This year, it'll be quite different, with the Finnish company looking to host a press conference on the morning of 27th February within the mobile industry's largest trade show held at Barcelona.
Details on what will be announced at the press conference is still unavailable, and the invite that reached our mailboxes haven't exactly given us a hint on what will be shown during that morning. However, an industry source has revealed to Forbes that there will be at least one high-end smartphone announced at the Nokia press conference. Forbes also uncovered something out of Nokia's partners - a phone that reportedly runs an unusual software feature usually reserved for high-end smartphones. Both news are definitely pointing to at least one high-end smartphone to be revealed.
With Nokia's focus on Microsoft Windows Phone platform, it won't be a surprise to see more Windows Phone joining the Nokia Lumia 800, Lumia 710 and Lumia 900 in the Finnish company's portfolio. Previously, the possible appearance of the Lumia 910 at MWC, a supposed variant of the AT&T-bound Lumia 900, had been making its rounds in tech blogs. Nokia has since debunked the rumor. Other rumors include speculations about a Windows 8 tablet debut.
Given Nokia's 'ambivalent' relationship with MWC - in 2010, Nokia declined to invest in a booth; in 2011, they hosted an off-site press conference -, this year's heightened presence has certainly attracted some attention. With one competitor 'down' so as to speak, it will most likely be going head-to-head with major manufacturers like HTC and Sony who will be holding their own press conferences as well as allegedly introducing a whole slew of new products.
Meanwhile, we will be consolidating more news (both official and leaked) related to Mobile World Congress 2012 over here, and provide you with more updates live from Barcelona from the 27th of February to 1st of March.
