KT Spider Concept Smartphone Moonlights as Laptop, Tablet and Gaming Device
Sometimes, you'll find the most interesting news, from the least expected brands at major tech shows such as IFA.
KT, Korea's largest telecommunications provider, gave a surprise showing with its very own Android smartphone concept, dubbed as Spider. The device caught our attention for two distinct reasons. Firstly, it's armed with a decent specifications list, which includes a Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a 4.5-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, and a 1710mAh battery. It's overall weight stands at 141g, with a thin 9.5mm profile to complete the experience.
However, the Android 2.3.4 device really boggled our mind with its accessories. Taking a cue from the Motorola Lapdock and the ASUS Padfone, the company introduced accessories such as a laptop and tablet dock. KT takes on a different approach with its laptop dock, opting to dock the smartphone right below the keyboard and turning it into a touchpad. The tablet accessory is essentially an extension of the smartphone, porting the user interface onto a larger 10.1-inch display for a viewing experience that's easier on the eye.
Beyond these two accessories, KT also upped the ante with a gamepad kit, which looks pretty familiar if you ask us. With a directional keypad on the left and four buttons on the right, the Spider smartphone is simply docked into the gamepad kit, and at that point, you'll be able to utilize the gaming controls for a better gaming experience.
Based on the interview by AndroidPIT, there is still no visibility of the KT Spider Concept outside of Korea for the moment. We are crossing our fingers and hope to see it making an appearance within our area sometime in the future.
