Google Buys HTPC Software Maker SageTV
It would not be an understatement to say that Google TV has been underwhelming since its debut. There have been limited devices available and sales from companies like Logitech of their Google TV products have been disappointing. Hence it's no surprise that Google is bringing out its massive cash reserves and buying expertise to shore up its software. The search giant has announced that it is buying SageTV, a familiar name for those who have attempted to build their own custom HTPC setup, as it has been selling its HTPC software since 2002.
PCMag - But little did we know that Google's first steps toward fixing up Google TV would be the surprise purchase of a company that's already well-versed in set-top box software and hardware. According to an announcement posted on the official website for SageTV, Google has acquired the company for an undisclosed amount.
