Apple Announces the iPad 2

The Apple iPad 2 has just been announced and it's thinner and lighter than the original while still having the same battery life. It also uses a new dual-core Apple A5 processor running at 1GHz and has no change to the screen resolution at 1024 x 768 pixels (132ppi).

It also does come with front and back cameras and Facetime support. Some slight improvements over the original, but no word on the amount of RAM it has. We'll have to wait for a teardown to see just how much RAM the iPad 2 has, but hopefully it will have at least 512MB instead of the paltry 256MB of the original.

The Apple iPad 2 will launch on 11 March in the US, with 26 other countries to follow suit on 25 March. Sadly, Singapore isn't one of the 26 countries and there's no word yet on a release date. If you're impatient though, Apple has dropped the price of the original iPad at the Singapore store by quite a bit (from $768 to $538 for the 16GB WiFi model), so you might want to pick that up instead... - Two cameras for FaceTime and HD video recording. The dual-core A5 chip. The same 10-hour battery life.1 All in a thinner, lighter design. Now iPad is even more amazing. And even less like anything else.
