Android Smartphone Users Prefer Apple iPad Over Android Tablets

Android Smartphone Users Prefer Apple iPads Over Android Tablets

It seems that there is no stopping the Cupertino company from dominating tablet sales despite the onslaught of Android tablets in the market. Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley stated in his research note that the iPads received warmer reception by Android smartphone users compared to Android tablets.

Mike Walkley - "Our smartphone and handset checks indicate iPads are selling better to Android smartphone users than the current Android tablets,"

He also remarked that the iPad commands a larger consumer following as Apple hit the sweet spot in terms of pricing. The iPad undercut the competition by forcing the other manufacturers to reduce their prices and profits in order to keep up with Apple, using the Motorola Xoom and BlackBerry PlayBook as two examples that did not achieve good sales due to their higher price points.

Network World - "Walkley also said that Apple had positively nailed the pricing of its tablets compared to the competition, meaning that rival tablet makers would have to start aggressively slashing their prices in order to at all keep up with the iPad."

Canaccord Genuity's projection of iPad sales is of no surprise as it predicts iPad sales to hit about 36 million this year, which is more than double the amount sold last year. This will mean that Apple will capture a large slice of the market share at 56%, with its closest competitor, Samsung, gaining just slightly over 10% of the market. Will the upcoming Google Android OS that runs on both smartphones and tablets have any impact on this forecast? Only time will tell.
