2012: Year of the Fatter iPad, Longer iPhone and Thinner MacBook Pro?

According to Taiwanese IT news site, Digitimes, panel makers have already started shipping displays for the next-generation iPad, which we shall call "iPad 3" for now. Samsung Electronics, LG Display and Sharp have already shipped a total of one million high-resolution units, while reports say that assembly will start in early 2012.

After some digging around, we've also come across some news that seem to confirm this new component. According to iLounge, whose trusted insider source said that the upcoming iPad 3 will increase its thickness by 0.7mm to fit a twin light bar system used in higher-resolution displays.

iLounge's source also indicated that the next iPhone will also have a an increase in length by 8mm to fit a 4-inch screen, but is still in the engineering phase instead of being in early production, to combat battery life issues.

The last but most interesting tidbit that iLounge's source gave, was that the MacBook Pro will feature a radical new design which we've been hearing about since mid 2011. It seems that Apple feels it's time to downsize the MacBook Pro line, or upsize its popular MacBook Air line, in anticipation of more powerful next-generation processor chips -- Ivy Bridge followed by Haswell.
