For this Diamond Plus edition MSI GeForce 7600 GT, we paired a MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard together with an Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6GHz) processor. We added 1GB of low latency DDR400 RAM from Kingston, running in dual channel mode. A Seagate 7200.7 SATA hard drive was chosen and it was installed with Microsoft's Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and the latest DirectX 9.0c

Since the MSI is a more expensive special edition card, we compared it against several other worthy contenders in the market. Besides the NVIDIA reference card, there are a few overclocked variants in our comparison, from XpertVision (575/1500MHz) and Leadtek (590/1600MHz). Of course, the MSI is running at default clocks so we had the standard but passively cooled Gigabyte to benchmark against. Both the MSI and the reference card are using ForceWare 91.29 drivers while the other GeForce 7600 GT cards were still on 84.21. The following benchmarks were tested:

  • Futuremark 3DMark05 Pro (version 120)
  • Futuremark 3DMark06 Pro (version 102)
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (version 1.3)
  • F.E.A.R
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (version 1.1)
  • Quake 4
