The top loading feeder accepts up to A3+ (13 x 19 inches) paper; it holds either 120 sheets of plain paper, or 30 sheets of photo paper.

The single sheet manual feeder at the front also holds up to A3+ paper; it's designed for thicker paper such as fine art paper and media up to 1.3mm thick. Compared to the R2880 where you need to attach a single-sheet guide at the back of the printer, with front-loading, you can push the R3000 nearer against the wall.

The roller carrier attachment goes to the back of the printer; you've the option to print a cutting line to aid you in trimming the printout. When you remove the roller, take care in rolling back the excess paper to avoid dirtying it.

Apart from the usual controls, the front of the R3000 also sits a 2.5-inch color LCD screen (it can't be tilted); it's mainly used for checking ink levels, and as a display for the menus and any instructions/error messages. Beside it, an LED indicator would flash when the ink runs low.

All nine inks have their own cartridge bay. Unlike the R2880, there's no need to swap the Photo and Matte Black inks manually; the R3000 does that automatically. Also, the cartridges remain stationary during operation. The R3000 is still an 8-color-channel printer.

Fancy printing on a CD or DVD? The R3000 comes with a disc holder; it slides into the manual feed tray at the front. A small nitpick: careful alignment is needed when inserting this disc caddy.

While there are no memory card slots, you can bypass the computer and print directly from PictBridge-compatible devices.

In the Printer Utility, you can monitor ink levels, perform maintenance tasks, and setup alerts.
