Performance Benchmarking

For our benchmarking tests, we will be comparing the Eee PC 900 against the HP Mini-Note and also against the more expensive HTC Shift and Sony VAIO VGN-TZ18GN to see how well it holds up in general to the various other products. As usual, sourcing for exactly similar specifications for hardware can be difficult, so we've chosen products that we believe would present a good comparison.

Due to a few problems we encountered during our benchmark session such as 3DMark06 failing to even load properly due the rather weak integrated graphics engine, we are only able to present to you the results from PCMark 05. In a way, 3DMark06 results is not an issue due to the fact that you won't be using the Eee PC 900 for real 3D gaming.

Based on the scores, we're not really surprised that the Eee PC beats the Mini-Note for both system and CPU scores, though we're disappointed by the HDD score, as we had expected the flash storage nature of the Eee PC to perform much better than a normal magnetic platter drive. Otherwise, the Eee PC 900 held its own pretty much against the more expensive HTC Shift and the HP Mini-Note netbooks. As a side note, we also performed another unofficial WoW test on the Eee PC 900, and found that we actually got better frame rates as compared to the Mini-Note and the Shift.
