Since then, the highly acclaimed mouse has been the platform of the limited edition Razer Diamondback Plasma and the budget Razer Krait. Three years on, Razer has finally given the Diamondback a well-deserved overhaul by giving it a 3G infrared sensor and naming it as the Razer Diamondback 3G. There are three colors to choose from: Frost Blue, Flame Red and Earth Green.

Lethal killer

Unlike the past few variants of the Diamondback mouse, the latest Diamondback 3G does not come with a see-through "skin", which means the innards of the mouse are completely hidden away from sight. The only glow coming from the top of the new mouse is that of Razer's logo, only it's in the form of a backlit light and not a soft glow from the sensor. As a result, the Razer Diamondback 3G looks sleeker and its design cues are more in line with the rest of the Razer series.

Where ergonomic is concerned, the Razer Diamondback 3G continues to be comfortable to hold as it is powerful. Using it over a period of time did not result in any discomfort and it will fit both left-handed and right-handed users because it has a fully symmetrical design – although the side buttons located on the left profile of the mouse do imply that right-handed users will stand to benefit more.

Gamers will appreciate the fact that the cable measures a cool seven feet and that it is firmly connected to the chassis of the mouse. Furthermore, the USB connector is gold plated to ensure optimal transfer.

Sharp senses

When it comes down to the meat, the 1800dpi third generation infrared sensor in the Razer Diamondback 3G is the same as the one powering the Razer DeathAdder, and believe us when we say that its tracking was accurate on nearly all the surfaces we tested.

The zero-acoustic Ultraslick Teflon feet on the mouse did a good job in letting us ease the Diamondback 3G around regardless whether it was on a tabletop or a mousepad.

Interestingly, the infrared sensor in the Razer Diamondback 3G is not positioned right in the middle of the mouse. Instead, it is located nearer to the front for better fingertip control and balance, which, by the way, is the configuration preferred by hardcore gamers anyway. Its lightweight quality and ability to track fast swiping motions accurately and smoothly are major plus points that gamers, digital artists, web designers and the likes will be thankful for in no time at all.

Making sense of the powerful hardware of the Razer Diamondback 3G are the software driver and utility. These not only allow users to change the properties of the mouse such as sensitivity and acceleration but also let users customize all the shortcut buttons to their usage patterns. For instance, scrolling can be assigned to the side buttons while the scroll wheel can be configured to be zoom toggles.

Final touch

We tested the Razer Diamondback 3G on the game 'Counterstrike' and the experience was simply awesome. The sensitivity of the mouse enabled us to cover more areas and also let us target enemies with precision and minimal hand movement. In applications such as Adobe PhotoShop, the precision and the customizable buttons proved to be very handy. If you don't mind splashing out USD$59.99 for a mouse, the Razer Diamondback 3G is easily one of the best that you can get for your profession and that gamer living inside of you.

Page 1 of 1

‹ Prev

<fieldset style="display:none;"></fieldset> Sharpen Your Predatory Instinct

Next ›

 // window.addEvent ('domready', function () { var container = document.getElement ('#product-review'), content = container && container.getElement ('.content'), pagination = container && container.getElement ('.pagination'), form = pagination && pagination.getElement ('form'), menu = form && form.getElement ('.page-selector'), links = { prev: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.prev a'), next: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.next a') }, page = -1, desc = 'Page {curPage} of {lastPage}' ; // Tag as Javascript-enabled pagination.addClass ('js'); menu.addEvent ('change', function (e) { var curPage = this.selectedIndex + 1, lastPage = this.length, url = this.get ('value'), pageContent = container && container.getElement ('.page') ; // Disable controls menu.set ('disabled', 'disabled').blur (); if (pageContent) pageContent.setStyle ('opacity', .5); new Request.HTML ({ 'url': url, 'method': 'get', 'link': 'cancel', 'update': content, 'onSuccess': function () { // Update controls menu.erase ('disabled'); links.prev .set ('href', menu.getChildren ('option')[(curPage > 1)? curPage - 2: curPage - 1].get ('value')) [(curPage > 1)?
