New to the audio department is the Panasonic RP-HTX7 headphone, a retro looking headphone that's designed to complement your digital audio player and to get you into the mood of the swinging days.

It has to be 'that' Look

Right out the box, you'll find that the HTX7 is faithfully designed to appear like a pair of headphones from the 80s. There are no fancy curves or any high-tech external attributes on the outside. The dome housing of the cans is made out of modern and tough materials that should allow it to go anywhere - although its glossy finishing does indicate extra care is required in handling the RP-HTX7 because it doesn't conceal scratches as well as if it had a matt finishing.

The HTX7 comes in five color variants that include blue, black, champagne, green and white. Given the hordes of iPod and other portable media devices in white, owners eagerly looking to accessorize their cherished audio player will very likely want matching headphones, and we are guessing that white HTX7 is going to be a big hit. For a more 'pro' look, the black version would do the trick and usually blends in well universally.

Listening to 'Saturday Night Fever' Again

The RP-HTX7 is a small pair of circumaural headphones that fits snugly to your ears. Being a close-vented headphone means it is not only capable of isolating external noise by up to 75% but also good at preventing your loud 'Rock and Roll' music from leaking and disturbing people around you. Further adding to the noise isolating property and comfort factor of the headphones are the thick cushions covering the cans. Granted the HTX7 keeps all sound inside the cans, what you'll get is sound that is full and rich, but one with bass that can be a little overpowering at times - this should be good news for those who enjoy rock, Hip Hop and R&B genres. Also, with its lengthy two-meter long audio cable, the RP-HTX7 can also be used to enjoy movies and music from your home entertainment system without you having to be in extreme close proximity.

Final Thoughts

If you think you're a chic individual, the Panasonic RP-HTX7 will certainly be a cool accessory to add to your possession. Although midrange was found lacking and it caused vocals and strings to sound a tad too harsh, the overall sound quality was impressive nevertheless at its price range.

Overall, the HTX7 is a great sounding headphone that's well within the reach of its targeted consumer group: students and young working adults. It will be available soon at a retail price of US$51 (S$89). For its qualities, the HTX7 is strongly recommend for hip-hop, dance and rock music lovers who want the 'boom' factor for sound and the 'chill' factor for looks.

Page 1 of 1

‹ Prev

<fieldset style="display:none;"></fieldset> Retro Sound

Next ›

 // window.addEvent ('domready', function () { var container = document.getElement ('#product-review'), content = container && container.getElement ('.content'), pagination = container && container.getElement ('.pagination'), form = pagination && pagination.getElement ('form'), menu = form && form.getElement ('.page-selector'), links = { prev: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.prev a'), next: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.next a') }, page = -1, desc = 'Page {curPage} of {lastPage}' ; // Tag as Javascript-enabled pagination.addClass ('js'); menu.addEvent ('change', function (e) { var curPage = this.selectedIndex + 1, lastPage = this.length, url = this.get ('value'), pageContent = container && container.getElement ('.page') ; // Disable controls menu.set ('disabled', 'disabled').blur (); if (pageContent) pageContent.setStyle ('opacity', .5); new Request.HTML ({ 'url': url, 'method': 'get', 'link': 'cancel', 'update': content, 'onSuccess': function () { // Update controls menu.erase ('disabled'); links.prev .set ('href', menu.getChildren ('option')[(curPage > 1)? curPage - 2: curPage - 1].get ('value')) [(curPage > 1)?
