<p>After being an exclusive model to Vodafone Europe for a brief spell, the Palm 750v has finally gone global &ndash; thankfully. But unlike previous models that were proudly driven by Palm&rsquo;s very own operating system, the new 750v was earmarked right from the start for Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition. What you are looking at then is Palm&rsquo;s very first Windows Mobile Pocket PC to be sold outside of North America.</p>

<h4 class="page_sub_title">Right here, right now</h4>
<p class="rteleft">While the generic design of the 750v is not going to raise any eyebrow, Palm users will be happy to know that Palm has finally done away with the stubby, eyesore antenna found on Treos of old. The end result is a Treo with a much sleeker outline, hence much more pleasing to the eyes. The blue and silver color tone signals a clear executive intent and because the exterior is lined with a coating of rubber for better grip, you need not fear the handset would simply slide out of your hands.</p>
<p class="rteleft">And as per Treo tradition, the 750v also sports a full QWERTY keyboard that is just as tactile to use as all its predecessors. It&rsquo;s still one of the best layouts around from a Windows Mobile 5 device. The left profile of the 750v hosts the volume control buttons and a customizable side button while the onboard IR port and miniSD slot are positioned on the opposite flank. Crown of the 750v is home to the stylus and ringer on/off switch.</p>
<p class="rteleft">Where imaging is concerned, the 750v only has a modest 1.3-megapixel camera and this is accompanied by a really loud speaker. Finally, users can find the headset jack, the multi-connector, and the microphone at the base of the unit.</p>
<h4 class="page_sub_title">Lessons learned</h4>
<p class="rteleft">While it&rsquo;s quite disappointing that Palm did not incorporate Wi-Fi into the Treo 750v, there are still a lot of features to talk about. For one, the Palm Treo 750v is a Quad-band smartphone with UMTS. This arms users with high-speed connection to the Internet at anytime. What really sets Palm apart from competitors however, are the subtle enhancements that are geared towards offering greater convenience to end-users. These can be seen up front via the &ldquo;Today&rdquo; screen of the unit. For example, contacts can be searched out simply by typing the contact name where a lookup field will automatically list out all the matching contacts with corresponding numbers. Another nifty feature is threaded messaging function. Through this, users will be able to see his messages with his contact in chat format. Finally, a web search bar is included in the today screen for quick Google search.</p>
<p class="rteleft">Admittedly, many of these enhancements (less the web search bar) are already present on the Treo 650, but to have these on a Windows Mobile device is handy no less. Together with the well sorted QWERTY keypad, the 750v will leave you with barely any use for the stylus.</p>
<h4 class="page_sub_title">Final Thoughts</h4>
<p class="rteleft">At S$1,268, the Palm Treo 750v is not cheap, but the upshot to it is that as soon as you start using it, you&rsquo;ll realize that Palm has really done a very good job in making the 750v a truly &ldquo;smart&rdquo; smartphone for anyone to hold their own in the business world.</p>
