Sony Introduces WhiteMagic LCD Module with Added White Pixel

How do you increase an LCD's brightness without zapping battery life? How about adding a white pixel? Say hello to Sony's WhiteMagic, a 3-inch VGA low-temperature polysilicone TFT LCD module with an added white pixel on top of the existing RGB trio. The pint-sized screen is designed for digital cameras.
Sony Corporation - Sony Corporation has succeeded in commercializing “WhiteMagic", an LCD module for digital cameras that utilizes the newly-developed 'RGBW method'.
According to their press release, the additional white pixel enables Sony to double the display's brightness without incurring more battery power as used in the LCD module's Outdoors Mode. WhiteMagic is expected to ship in early October at a sample price of 5,000 yen.
