Sony Announces New Full-frame Alpha SLT-A99

Besides announcing the Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 compact camera, Sony has also introduced the highly anticipated successor to the A900 DSLR - the full-frame A99.

The first Translucent Mirror camera from Sony to feature a 24.3-megapixel full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor, the A99 also debuts an advanced AF-D continuous autofocus mode that works with moving subjects to ensure unprecedented levels of imaging performance with still and video shooting. Built to withstand wear and tear, the A-mount flagship 35mm full-frame camera boosts maximum sensitivity range (in expanded sensitivity mode) as wide as ISO 50-25600, a range of nine stops.

Offering full-frame Full HD 50/25p (switchable to 60/24p) progressive video recording to meet AVCHD v2.0 specifications, the full-time Continuous AF Movie (introduced on the A77) allows smooth, non-stop tracking of moving subjects. A silent new multi-controller is easily accessible via a dial on the front of the camera, for extra convenience while shooting a movie.

Controls and buttons are ruggedized, while weather-resistant seal protect against dust and moisture. The grip has been redesigned, while switches and button shapes are differentiated for an intuitive fingertip operation without having to glance at them. Also, a new exposure mode dial lock has been included to prevent accidental rotation. The new Sony Alpha SLT-A99 full-frame Translucent Mirror camera will be available in APAC starting early November 2012. From launch, new AF-D mode is supported by the SAL2470Z, SAL2875, SAL50F14, SAL300F28G2, SAL70400G and SAL500F4G lenses. More lenses will be supported via future firmware updates.
