Samsung Dethrones Nokia as the Biggest Name in Mobile Phones

For the first time in 14 years, Nokia will not be the top mobile phone brand. Instead, it is Samsung, who is expected to account for 29% of worldwide mobile phone shipments this year. This is up from 24% last year. On the other hand, Nokia is estimated to account for 24% of all mobile phone shipments, down from 30% last year. Rounding up the top 5 are Apple in third place, followed by ZTE and LG.
In their report, iSuppli also noted that smartphones are the fastest growing segment of the mobile phone market and that shipment for this year is expected to be 35% more than the previous year.
As for smartphones, Samsung reigns supreme too, garnering 28% of the market. Apple is in second place with 20%. Nokia, HTC and RIM round up the top 5 smartphone brands, with each expecting to account for 5% of 2012's shipment.
