RIM CEO Thorsten Heins: BlackBerry 10 Will Be a Success

Research in Motion (RIM) CEO Thorsten Heins is confident that the upcoming BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system will be a success despite the dominance of Apple iOS and Google Android in the mobile space.

Speaking to The New York Times, Heins said that he doesn't "expect things to get much worse". He went on to highlight the platform's integration and usability to woo consumers and corporations over.

For example, BB10's messenger centre is able to display Facebook updates, LinkedIn messages, texts, emails and tweets in one place instead of accessing separate apps. Unlike current mobile devices which use a home or menu button, BB10 only requires the flick of the thumb to navigate. 

The New York Times - “It is stress relief; it doesn’t make you look at all your applications all the time,” Mr. Heins said. “This is going to catch on with a lot of people.”

BB10 will also appeal to companies as it allows their information technology (IT) departments to segregate corporate data from the users' personal information. In the event that an employee quits, companies have the flexibility of wiping out sensitive company data on the phone while leaving the employee's personal data intact.

Moreover, Heins is confident that BB10 phones will replace desktops and laptops in offices sometime in the future, as the phones can function as building passes for employees, and also can connect to keyboards and displays at their desks. 

The New York Times - "Whenever you enter an office, you don’t have your laptop with you, you have your mobile computer power exactly here,” Mr. Heins said, patting a BlackBerry 10 phone sitting in a holster on his hip. “You will not carry a laptop within three to five years.”

RIM confirmed three days ago that it will be launching BB10 on 30^th January 2013 with a live demonstration of the first two devices at the event. Release dates for the two devices will also be confirmed at the event.
