Mainstream Fermi to be Dubbed GTS 400?
Last week, we posted news about upcoming mainstream editions of NVIDIA's Fermi cards; today, a German website claims to have inside information regarding NVIDIA's new mainstream offerings.
The Tech Report - According to 3DCenter, the GF104 will feature 256 shader units, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit GDDR5 memory interface—not quite exactly a halved GF100. You can reportedly expect this future chip in three products, which the site tentatively calls the GeForce GTS 450, GeForce GTS 440, and GeForce GTS 430. The first of those will reportedly cost €200-230 in Europe, so likely about the same number of dollars over here. The middle child should set you back €160-180 (again, likely $160-180), and the cheapest will fall below that.
True or not, we have no idea, but if it's true then it's good to know that NVIDIA is actually working on brand new mainstream SKU as opposed to rehashing and rebranding their older parts as they have been doing.
