London to Deploy 14,000 iPad-Controlled Street Lamps

After a successful pilot scheme earlier this year, the Westminster City Council has decided to replace all 14,000 of its street lights with smarter, more efficient, iPad-controlled alternatives.
Apart from being more power efficient, these lamps can be controlled by iPads and are able to alert engineers using an iPad app as to when they need repairs or replacement. Although the initial investment is believed to be in the region of around £3.25 million, the efficiency of these new light bulbs mean that the council will be able to recoup its investment within seven years and thereafter help taxpayers save around £420,000 a year.
