Lenovo Introduces the K900, the First Intel Cover Trail+ Smartphone at CES 2013
While most phone makers shy away from competing with Samsung and its Galaxy Note II in the 5.5-inch category, Lenovo takes the fight to the Korean company with its latest flagship smartphone, the K900.

Announced at CES 2013, the Lenovo K900 is the world's first 5.5-inch Full HD smartphone. In comparison, the Galaxy Note II has a 5.5-inch 720p display. Lenovo opts for an IPS display reinforced with Gorilla Glass 2 on the K900, while the Galaxy Note II comes with a HD Super AMOLED screen,
The Lenovo K900 is also the first phone to be powered by Intel's new Atom platform, the Clover Trail+ which is tipped to be the successor to the Medfield processor on the Lenovo K800. The 32nm dual-core Z2580 CPU with Hyper-Threading technology and Dual-Core Graphics Engine can give the Exynos 4412 Quad processor in the Galaxy Note II a run for its money.
Touted as the thinnest phone in its class, the K900 is encased in a low-magnetic stainless steel and polycarbonate unibody chassis which measures just 6.9mm and weighs 162g. The Galaxy Note II, on the other hand, seems a little too bulky now at 9.4mm.
Lenovo is also focusing heavily on the imaging capabilities of the K900. The K900 currently has the widest ever aperture on a smartphone camera at F1.8. Previously, the record is held by the HTC One series of smartphones such as the HTC One X+ with an aperture of F2.0.
Like the Sony Xperia Z, the K900 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera. Its imaging performance in low light conditions should be excellent considering that it also has an Exmor BSI camera sensor. It will be interesting to see how the Lenovo K900 fares against the Sony Xperia Z, which is also positioned as a premium camera phone.
While it is positioned as an Android smartphone, Lenovo did not specify which version the K900 is running on. As a flagship device with industry-leading specs, we hope Lenovo ships the K900 with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
