Intel to Exit Desktop Motherboard Business Following Haswell's Launch

Intel is exiting the desktop motherboard business after the launch of its fourth-generation Intel Core processors. This is according to Intel spokesman, Mr. Dan Snyder. The company will focus on areas that include reference design development and its Next Unit of Computing (NUC) devices.

After the company's exit, consumers will have to depend solely on other motherboard manufacturers including ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte. According to Intel, these manufacturers are committed to the desktop PC roadmap of the company and there is no need to ring the death knell for the desktop motherboard industry.

Recently, Intel has unveiled plans to divert its resources to lucrative markets of smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks. It even has plans to launch its own TV set-top box, with hopes to revolutionize the business model of pay TV.
