Instagram for Android: Open for Registration

Three months ago, Instagram made it known that they'll be bringing their popular photo-sharing app to the Android platform. We knew that a lean team of two was working on the project, although we didn't hear of any concrete release dates then. As announced by The Next Web recently, Instagram has created a site for Android users to sign up for a likely beta release before it hits Google Play. To do so, simply enter your email address in the single field found on the teaser page.
Upon registering, users would see a message "Thanks for signing up! We'll be in touch soon" which suggests users will be notified once the trial copy is available for download. According to The Next Web's report, Instagram has scored a massive hit on iOS devices with an impressive following of 27 million users to date. Instagram's CEO, Kevin Systrom, also hopes that their 'audience would double' with the upcoming release of the Android app.
Conversely, Instagram is a little late to the Android party considering that other similar applications such as Lightbox, Snapr, EyeEm and many others have already established a foothold on Google's mobile platform. It'll be interesting to see if the popular photo-sharing service would enjoy the same success as it did with Apple's mobile operating system.
