Facebook Rolls Out Free VoIP Calling in U.S. iPhone Messenger App
Facebook has just quietly rolled out a new feature for its iPhone Messenger app -- free VoIP calls. With this new feature, US Facebook users with an iPhone can now call each other for free using mobile data or Wi-Fi. According to The Verge, call quality is on par with established players like Viber and Skype.
While this feature is just one of many features in an already robust Messenger app, this seemingly small step immediately propels Facebook to become one of the biggest players in the mobile VoIP field. This feature is unfortunately limited to iPhones in the US for now; Facebook offered no further information as to when this feature will appear on US Android handsets, or when it will be rolled out globally.
