Apple Predicted to Launch Slimmer 9.7-inch iPad Next Year
With the announcement of the iPad mini and fourth-gen iPad with A6X chip just fresh out of the oven, industry analysts are already looking to greener pastures - a thinner 9.7-inch iPad might just be around the corner.
Apple Insider - "Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities thinks Apple may feel pressure from Microsoft's new Surface tablet, especially considering that the fourth-generation iPad is the same weight and thickness as the third-generation model.
"Though the iPad mini is expected to be successful, we think launching the lighter, thinner 9.7" iPad as quickly as possible matters more for Apple strategically," Kuo explained."
We are not entirely dispelling these claims of course - Apple is known to slim down their products with each new generation and who's to say that the 9.4mm 9.7-inch iPad cannot be shaved down to 7.2mm like its iPad mini counterpart?
These rumors also discuss the possibility of Apple using GF Dito/GF2 technology to manufacture the bigger iPad's display, letting it arrive thinner than it is possible with the current GG (glass-on-glass) touch screen technology. If Apple were to venture into that, tech adopters could be looking at new iPads by spring 2013.
