Android Event Canceled Due to Hurricane Sandy

Those who are waiting for Google to unveil its new line of Nexus devices may have to wait a little longer as Hurricane Sandy forced the company to cancel its Android event.

According to The Verge, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency after weather forecasters rated Hurricane Sandy as a potent Category 2 storm or "worst case" superstorm. The venue for Google's event was going to be held on a waterfront pier, which is now in an evacuation zone.

Google - "We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more."

This is the second time in two years that Google postponed its launch event. Last year, Google and Samsung postponed the launch of the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of respect for Apple co-founder and ex-CEO Steve Jobs, who passed away on a few days before the event. 

Meanwhile, Microsoft is still going ahead with its Windows Phone 8 launch in San Francisco, where it should be safe from Hurricane Sandy.
