AMD's SeaMicro Announces New Servers with AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon CPUs
AMD's SeaMicro has just launched its new SM15000 servers that feature AMD Piledriver-based Opteron and Intel Xeon CPUs. They are aimed squarely at the cloud computing market. These products updates to its server platform are the company's first since being acquired by AMD earlier this year.
The SM15000 server supports AMD Freedom Fabric technology that allows it to connect to large disk arrays, up to 1,408 solid state or hard drives, across the network, effectively extending its storage capabilities beyond the server chassis. The chassis is able to house up to 64 slots for server compute cards that are based on AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon processors. Despite being own by AMD, SeaMicro is committed to offering Intel-based CPUs to meet the computing requirements of their customers. The Intel-based compute cards will use quad-core Xeon E3-1265v2 CPUs, while the new Opteron cards will feature four-module/eight-core "Piledriver" CPUs.
SeaMicro's SM15000 server chassis that are based on AMD Opteron processors and Intel Ivy Bridge-based Xeon Processor E3-1265Lv2 will be available in November this year. For more information, please visit this link at SeaMicro's website.
