<p>The great graphics card fire sale is happening as we speak, with both ATI and NVIDIA churning out new variants of their products and pushing them on the OEM and retail channels. Prices of mid-range and high-end graphics cards have dipped with the introduction of these rebadged cards as both sides jockey to secure a favorable outcome before the next generation DirectX 10 hardware compliant GPUs are unleashed.</p>
<p>The latest move comes from NVIDIA again. Following up on its recent decision to split the GeForce 7900 GT GPU into two with the GeForce 7900 GS and the GeForce 7950 GT, there comes another 'new' GPU into the increasingly crowded GeForce 7900 series. The <a href="http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20060905233853.html" target="_blank">GeForce 7900 GTO</a> is <a href="http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread.php?t=1415655" target="_blank">expected to be in stores shortly</a> and looks like a fusion between the top-ranked GeForce 7900 GTX and the GeForce 7900 GT. Price and performance is likely to be a notch above the GeForce 7950 GT and fills in the gap between the existing GeForce 7900 GTX and the 7950 GT. However, it's still early to tell if this variant would be a staple SKU and if consumers will take to these new chips or would they rather wait for further price movements.</p>
<p>As for the GeForce 7900 GS, it has quickly captured the attention of performance seekers for its admirable price performance ratio. An overclocked GeForce 7900 GS will make up for its disabled processing quad (which is four pixel and one vertex shader processors) and that is something vendors have seized upon to sell their products. There are still standard versions out there though, and to remind us of that, MSI's latest GeForce 7900 GS, featuring HDCP support is here in our labs. Here then is the MSI NX7900GS-T2D256E-HD. </p>
