Considering the reputation of Fujitsu for producing business-focused notebooks, the LifeBook Q2010 certainly breaks a lot of new ground, starting by setting a new standard in notebook dimension and glamorous appeal.

A Fashion Statement On Its Own

The Q2010 is a thin and light notebook weighing just one kilogram, and with a slender profile measuring a thin 20mm, it also puts many mobile phones and notebooks to shame. With its unique, piano lacquer finish, the Q2010 is not only a head-turner, but also an object of desire - especially for those who just bought what they thought was the slimmest notebook around.

To give the thin LifeBook strength, magnesium and titanium were used for its housing and hinges respectively. Although the LifeBook has a sleek profile, sacrifices were noticeably made – it lacks an optical drive, as well as standard ports for VGA out, and LAN cables have to beattached via an adapter. However, Fujitsu has bundled in an expansion dock that's equipped with a DVD writer and other commonly used ports.

Tiny Bundle of Joy

Since the chassis and the battery of the Q2010 are significantly smaller than its predecessors, extreme power-conserving components had to be incorporated. At the heart is an ultra-low voltage (ULV) Intel Core Solo U1400 (1.2GHz), integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics engine, and a 1.8-inch hard drive. For extended battery life on the move, the Q2010 comes with two batteries – a three-cell that fits well into the chassis but lasts only for two hours and a six-cell battery that protrudes slightly from the bottom but lasts for 6 long hours and looks better than the larger optional batteries that awkwardly sticks out of notebooks.

What Lies Beneath

The Fujitsu Q2010 has a 12.1-inch widescreen display with an optimized resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels to cater movie aficionados preferring 16:9 to 4:3 display ratio. With a glossy polarizing laminate in the screen, the onscreen colors become clearer and crisper.

Not just a beautiful mobile computing to work on, the Q2010 also "cares" for you through its sophisticated data protection feature. An integrated fingerprint scanner with SmartCase™ Logon+ security software ensures authenticated access and helps to prevent unauthorized entry. Also, the hard drive is attached to an accelerometer that senses mishaps before they become regrets by instantly parking the drive head to prevent data loss. Of course, there's always the good old Kensington lock slot to turn to for utmost protection of your investment.

Most interesting of all about the Fujitsu LifeBook Q2010 is its embedded UMTS that supports GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA. Also, with an onboard Intel 3945 (802.11a/b/g) and Bluetooth, connecting wirelessly to servers or devices will be a snap. The Q2010 also have various interfaces such as SIM Card, PC Express Card, SD Card, VGA (cable adapter), two USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit LAN (cable adapter), an IEEE 1394, and audio in (line-in/microphone) and audio out (line-out/headphone) for decent multimedia entertainment.

Final Thoughts

With its light and thin profile, long battery life, wireless connections, and various safety features, the Q2010 is one glamorous notebook you'll want to be seen with. Needless to say, there is always a price to pay, USD$3,525 to be exact. Yes, it is exorbitantly priced and will definitely put a huge dent in your wallet, but at least you can rest assured that you'll get a sense of satisfaction like no other.

Page 1 of 1

‹ Prev

<fieldset style="display:none;"></fieldset> An Everyday LifeBook

Next ›

 // window.addEvent ('domready', function () { var container = document.getElement ('#product-review'), content = container && container.getElement ('.content'), pagination = container && container.getElement ('.pagination'), form = pagination && pagination.getElement ('form'), menu = form && form.getElement ('.page-selector'), links = { prev: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.prev a'), next: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.next a') }, page = -1, desc = 'Page {curPage} of {lastPage}' ; // Tag as Javascript-enabled pagination.addClass ('js'); menu.addEvent ('change', function (e) { var curPage = this.selectedIndex + 1, lastPage = this.length, url = this.get ('value'), pageContent = container && container.getElement ('.page') ; // Disable controls menu.set ('disabled', 'disabled').blur (); if (pageContent) pageContent.setStyle ('opacity', .5); new Request.HTML ({ 'url': url, 'method': 'get', 'link': 'cancel', 'update': content, 'onSuccess': function () { // Update controls menu.erase ('disabled'); links.prev .set ('href', menu.getChildren ('option')[(curPage > 1)? curPage - 2: curPage - 1].get ('value')) [(curPage > 1)?
