Following the success spell it had with the 838 Pro, the Taiwanese company is quick to strike with the new D810 – a 3.5G phone that will definitely knock anyone’s socks off.

Tried And Tested Formula

The Dopod D810, also known as the Trinity, comes in two colors of either reflective black or white and sports a minimalist styling for its fascia. The two rather mundane colors suggest the D810 is not intended for bustling youths, which is just as well granted it's quite steeply priced at USD$825 (SGD$1,298). For that price however, the D810 looks and feels a little lightweight mainly because its compact housing is made out of glossy plastic, a lot of it. That is not to say it has a dodgy build quality. On the contrary, the D810 feels very well pieced together, an impression carved into us when we had to remove the entire back cover of the phone before slotting in our SIM card.

A fairly loud speaker is present on the D810, great for listening to tunes whenever your mood calls for it. A scroll-wheel can be found along the top left flank with the start menu button located right beside it. On the other side are the voice commander button, camera button, and a miniSD expansion slot for you to take storage beyond the 64MB RAM onboard. Finally, the stylus is conveniently located at the bottom right of the D810.

The Total Package

The D810 supports the latest 3.5G technology, right behind the footsteps of the 838Pro. A 2.0-megapixel camera is located at the back of the unit and it has a maximum image resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels. There is no flash unit build in but there is an option to set the exposure manually, something like the "buld" mode of digital compact cameras. The good news is that it works but at the price of grainy images. We have no complaint about the LCD though. It's big, colorful and sharp, pretty much what most users would ask for really.

At the business end of things is a Samsung 400MHZ processor and it is quite a capable little chip. Even with several applications running concurrently, the D810 didn't feel sluggish at all. This responsiveness is imperative given power users will almost certainly have multiple applications running simultaneously. Programs like Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Reader (PDF), IE Mobile, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, PocketMSN, Activesync, Internet Sharing, Network Wizard, Mobile RSS (via web download), Streaming Media Player, Cyberon Voice Commander, and Sprite Backup are standard in each D810. Finally, the battery life of the Dopod D810 was quite impressive; lasting 2.5 easily – provided Wi-Fi is used in moderation.

Final Thoughts

The Dopod D810 charms its way to the hearts of PDA phone users with its HSDPA capability, user-friendly interface, bundled applications and two cameras for photo imaging and video call purposes. It's fast, it's sharp and it's a good blend of everything.

Page 1 of 1

‹ Prev

<fieldset style="display:none;"></fieldset> The Perfect Business Ally

Next ›

 // window.addEvent ('domready', function () { var container = document.getElement ('#product-review'), content = container && container.getElement ('.content'), pagination = container && container.getElement ('.pagination'), form = pagination && pagination.getElement ('form'), menu = form && form.getElement ('.page-selector'), links = { prev: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.prev a'), next: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.next a') }, page = -1, desc = 'Page {curPage} of {lastPage}' ; // Tag as Javascript-enabled pagination.addClass ('js'); menu.addEvent ('change', function (e) { var curPage = this.selectedIndex + 1, lastPage = this.length, url = this.get ('value'), pageContent = container && container.getElement ('.page') ; // Disable controls menu.set ('disabled', 'disabled').blur (); if (pageContent) pageContent.setStyle ('opacity', .5); new Request.HTML ({ 'url': url, 'method': 'get', 'link': 'cancel', 'update': content, 'onSuccess': function () { // Update controls menu.erase ('disabled'); links.prev .set ('href', menu.getChildren ('option')[(curPage > 1)? curPage - 2: curPage - 1].get ('value')) [(curPage > 1)?
