Not only that, they have to use the latest technology and provide users with the best visual experience possible. While there is an abundance of LCD monitors in the market, that is not stopping Dell from introducing the UltraSharp 2707WFP, a 27-inch LCD monitor that aims to be the monitor of choice in the LCD arena.

Harmony In Technology

The Dell 2707WFP comes with the panel already screwed to its stand, eliminating the bothersome process of assembly. Dell has also abandoned its usual two-column plastic stand in favor of a redesigned metal base with a hinge mechanism to articulate the whole panel. The stand is fixed to a solid black base, including a swivel mechanism that allows it to swivel (up to 40 degrees), tilt (3 degrees downward, 21 degrees upward) and lift the monitor with ease (as high as 9cm from the top of the base). The spine of the 2707WFP has a removable cover to conceal cables, which are routed via an opening at the bottom of the column. Furthermore, the panel is mostly encased in a brushed aluminum chassis, giving it a very striking overall image especially when the LCD monitor is viewed upfront.

Loaded With Connections

At the bottom right corner of the display, users will be able to find the control buttons with its readable and distinct labels. The LEDs behind provide visual cues about the state of the display and the current input selected. We had no issues navigating through the menu of the 2707WFP as its OSD system is the same one offered in the 2407WFP. Other than the D-sub and HDCP-compliant DVI-D ports, the 2707WFP also has Component, S-video, Composite video inputs, two USB 2.0 ports, an upstream USB port, a speaker power port, and memory card readers. All of these connectivity options make the Dell 2707WFP the perfect monitor for just about anything.

Output Matters

Before calibration, the colors looked a bit on the 'blue' side. The default PC Normal color setting was measured to be around 7350K, PC Blue setting was over 9000K while the PC Red setting measured about 6400K. We then selected the Custom option (where RGB levels can be individually adjusted) and calibrated the monitor using our in-house colorimeter. The 2707WFP exhibited very good contrast but its brightness was a little on the high side. Although screen uniformity was not perfect, it was still very good and we did not detect any light spillover. Moreover, we hardly observed any banding in DisplayMate's color ramps (as shown below) and found close shades at the extremes to be distinguishable - a rare feat for LCD monitors.

For the best video possible, we recommend the HDCP-capable DVI-D input. Hence, for devices with HDMI output, an HDMI-to-DVI adaptor is required. With a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200, a dual-link DVI-D graphics card is not required for your PC. Needless to say, HD video content was a blast - noise looked more like film grain and we didn't experience any discomfort due to the increased pixel pitch while watching S.W.A.T. on our Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray player. Among the other notable OSD menu options, there is 1:1 pixel mapping and aspect ratio scaling.

Final Thoughts

While the Dell UltraSharp 2707WFP took our breath away with its visual prowess, some may just shy away from it as this LCD has a S$1500 price tag (or higher without the Dell offers). However it is priced reasonably for its size. If money is not an issue and you are seriously looking for a good 27-incher, then we definitely recommend this classy and powerful monitor.

Page 1 of 1

‹ Prev

<fieldset style="display:none;"></fieldset> Out of the Box, Into your Life

Next ›

 // window.addEvent ('domready', function () { var container = document.getElement ('#product-review'), content = container && container.getElement ('.content'), pagination = container && container.getElement ('.pagination'), form = pagination && pagination.getElement ('form'), menu = form && form.getElement ('.page-selector'), links = { prev: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.prev a'), next: pagination && pagination.getElement ('.next a') }, page = -1, desc = 'Page {curPage} of {lastPage}' ; // Tag as Javascript-enabled pagination.addClass ('js'); menu.addEvent ('change', function (e) { var curPage = this.selectedIndex + 1, lastPage = this.length, url = this.get ('value'), pageContent = container && container.getElement ('.page') ; // Disable controls menu.set ('disabled', 'disabled').blur (); if (pageContent) pageContent.setStyle ('opacity', .5); new Request.HTML ({ 'url': url, 'method': 'get', 'link': 'cancel', 'update': content, 'onSuccess': function () { // Update controls menu.erase ('disabled'); links.prev .set ('href', menu.getChildren ('option')[(curPage > 1)? curPage - 2: curPage - 1].get ('value')) [(curPage > 1)?
