Before you think this is a phishing (fake) site of Google - it isn't. It's the black version of Google called Blackle. It was set up by a Google partner as a anti-Global Warming move by conserving energy used to display Google's pages.
Is it just another marketing gimmick or does it really work? Well, consider this:
White takes up the most energy to display on a screen, based on the principle it takes the maximum of Red, Green, and Blue on an electronic display - whereas for Black, all the pixels are turned off. When you consider Google is the most visited site on the Net, then you can see how much energy is wasted displaying white on millions (or billions) of screens around the world. Hence we might be saving energy (and hence the need for less generation of energy) if we switched to black. Makes sense to you? If so, then just set your home page to Blackle.
