Beyond the Apple iPhone?
HardWareZone | 21 July, 2008 10:50
The Apple iPhone broke new grounds by incorporating the touch element to control a device - not a first - but brought about an evolution in technology. Then the HTC (Dopod) PDA offered the same, and the next thing you know, touch gadgets began appearing everywhere.
So what's the next step people might ask? With the touch element, it would seem the next step is to reproduce real-world interaction on devices. For example, we've been seeing gadgets using the shaking element. So it's no surprise a researcher at Glasgow University has developed a system for phones to tell you if it's running low on power by just - shaking it.
By using a combination of the phone's speaker and vibration functions, a phone can be made to feel like it contains liquid. This way you don't even have to look at your phone to know - you just shake it and feel it.
