HWM Celebrates its Brand Survey Awards and 4th Anniversary!

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

For those who were wondering where we went for last couple of days, we were actually quite drunk and pretty much wasted, and got stuck in a nudist camp near Dover after waking up. This small misadventure is primarily thanks to our smashing 4th Brand Survey Awards cum Anniversary night last Thursday. Held at one of the ballrooms at the Sheraton Subang, it was a fun filled night, especially with our invited seamstress, who put stitches in every one present! More pictures after the jump!

The revenge of the Dolphins

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

Does this animal look cute to you? With its beady eyes and slightly snickering smile, it looks a bit scary to me, in fact. Truth is, it (or rather, he) is the new Toshiba mascot for their IT product line, and yes, he's a seal. Like what you have been reading on other technorati blogs, Toshiba has finally launched the new Pala-chan MP3 player in Malaysia, along with their latest notebook range and branding strategy. More after the jump!

The last PC Fair of the year has come and gone, and surprisingly, there weren't many exciting things there, except for the appearance of Crucial RAMs and a couple of super great deals (who doesn't want a HP monochrome laserjet for 199 plus toner plus warranty??)

The HWM/GameAxis booth was also giving out great deals, with a year's subscription to HWM netting loyal subscribers a Lexmark printer, TV Tuner card, and a whole lot freebies. Gamers recieved a Bagman bag worth RM120 for a year's subscription to GameAxis!  Look what our readers have to say:

Anyways, enjoy the booth babes! (we spotted Cheryl working for Toshiba this time) more pics after the jump!

The post about next-gen consoles and hardcore gamers

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

We are pleased to announce that parallel imports of the Nintendo Wii are here!! Spotted at Master Genius' booth at the recent PcFair is the US version of the console that comes with Wii Sports and Bukodai Tenshi - At a surprisingly demure RM1999.

forgive us for the crappy cameraphone picture

That was the PC Fair price, though, and current street prices are unknown, BUT this post isn't wholly about the Wii (although we are fanboys), this post is to celebrate the console gaming trinity that is now complete!!! Yes you fellow Malaysians, we now have access to the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii, so what are you guys waiting for?? Get one of them now (or preferably get your parents to buy them as Christmas gifts for your lil' bro or sister instead *hehehehe*)!!!

And just to prove that we at GameAxis are actually hardcore gamers from the Alien planet of <insert name of most notorious alien race you've encountered in your gaming adventures>, we bring you this!

Seriously, we're HARDCORE! (anyone who guesses this person and the game he's playing correctly wins a ATI lanyard worth USD20)

Gamer's Hideout Year End Gathering...with Gameaxis!

FatCatLim | 21 July, 2008 10:50

Here at Gameaxis, we tend to end things with a bang so what better way to commemorate the end of 2006 with a friendly Gears of War fragging session? As you can tell from the picture of our lovely Gameaxis editor Blake on the poster, the Malaysian Gameaxis team will be there to take on all challengers!

Compete to stand a chance to win a year's subscription to Gameaxis and a cool Gamer's Hideout T-shirt! Now that's smokin'! See ya guys there!

P.S. Gameaxis will not be responsible for any crushed prides when we totally dominate you in GoW. w3 0Wn j00 n00bs!!!11111one!!!1

P.P.S. (We're joking really. We're not that l33t in GoW. Take it easy on us, 'kay?)

Asian Game Developers Summit 2006

FatCatLim | 21 July, 2008 10:50

What do you get when you cross flowery pink banners and minds weaned on video games? Why the Asian Game Developers Summit 2006, of course. Scintillating photos of game developers and speakers to follow after the jump.

Officiating the grand loo

FatCatLim | 21 July, 2008 10:50

(image originally taken from Screenshots)

You gotta love Malaysia. Where else can you find a whole street closed off for a officiating ceremony for the new 23 public "automatic-cleaning" toilets?

With the toilets costing RM400,000 each, you wonder if they'll throw in a back massage once you're done with your "business" in there. I remember trying out one such toilet back in Sydney, Australia, but I didn't think they were that great compared to a normal toilet. Anyone tried out the ones in Jalan Bukit Bintang yet?

It has been broken!

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

While we were still lagging behind the rest of the world on our slower-than-slow internet connections, Hitachi has pulled off a big one - it has broke the 1TB hard drive space, which means that we can now fit that hidden stash of porn movies in our HTPCs!! hurrah!

Its tomorrow (we meant today)!!!

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

While everyone had a great CES weekend, we're rooting for Macworld that's happening in (about) 8 hours from this post, and while CES is great because it gives you a taste and feel of all your new consumer stuff that's coming out within the next couple of months (or years), I'd rather go for a show that deals in unveiling products that we will see the day after they are unveiled by the maniacal leader him-who-holds-the-apple-by-its-balls! Amongst the rumors this year are the unveiling of the new Macphone (if the rumors are true, anyways) and a launch of a new Mac home theather system. Sweeeeet

Envy the new Samsung digital cameras~

FatCatLim | 21 July, 2008 10:50

Samsung seems raring to go after Canon and Nikon - they just launched their new range of Samsung NV digital cameras, which will be targeted towards mainstream consumers. Maybe it's me but they've a classic-retro camera look to them, especially the NV10 and its pop-up flash. They're very purty-looking though, and I wouldn't mind upgrading my old Canon IXUS 30.

Thing is, they've an interface with like a dozen tiny touch-sensitive buttons on the back, which I ain't too crazy about. Still, can't deny that they perform well and look sleek too. Anyway, here are a few more shots to whet your appetite.

Joo Magget REEL dawg!

zerotau | 21 July, 2008 10:50

Nokia launched its N93i, a smashingly sexay mobile that also records videos in near-DVD like quality. To commemorate the launch, they also launched the 'You make it reel' campaign which gives the average Joe the opportunity to win up to 10000 greenbacks (that's USD to you, matey), and a chance to create Greyskull's (we dont know who's that, either) second MTV!

Before that, you can also direct a music video for one of the 10 Malaysian artists that are supporting this program. They are OAG, DJ Fuzz, Jason Lo, Pete Teo, Gerhana Skacinta, Disagree, Joe Flizzow, Samir, Sasi The Don and One Buck Short.

Vista Business Value Launch

FatCatLim | 21 July, 2008 10:50

Hello guys, missed me? If you were wondering why I didn't blogged any entries for the week, it was because I was down in Korea for the HP regional PSG consumer launch. Lots of nifty stuff was on showcase, including their new HP TouchSmart PC and "Touch & Twist" TX-1000 notebook. I'll cover more on the event in the March issue of HWM Malaysia. Mucho thanks to my colleague kev for covering my share! I'll treat ya to yum cha one day. :D

What you see above is the free original DVD copies of Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit edition that was given out to all the members of the media who attended the Microsoft Corporate Vista launch this morning at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Don't you just love the holographic imagery captured by our studio lights? Too bad this Vista is for office-use only. I wish they had given away free copies of Office 2007 though...I could really use it, heheheh...

Look forward to our March issue for more pictures and coverage of the Malaysian Vista launch! For now, here's some pictures of what went down this morning down at the KLCC.
