Make Your PC Run Faster Than Ever!

LordM | 14 December, 2006 11:44

Most of us probably have tons of computer gunk hidden away in our PCs. In fact, as we install more and more computer programs unto our computer, one will probably notice that everything just seems slower. Now, before you even think of tinkering with your computers hardware, maybe you can first make Windows load faster...

There are some things you can do to obtain the "speed" your computer once had: either you reformat, delete some data, or add RAM. But of course, there will always be a neat trick that can save you from all the trouble. While this will significantly decrease boot-up time and increase your system's performance, please make sure to back up your settings first.

There are only two files you need to tweak: the system.ini file and the msdos.sys file that can be found on your main HDD Drive.

When you access the system.ini file, add this under lines [386Enh]:

LocalLoadHigh=1

DMABufferSize=64

Of course, another way of improve the performance of your PC is to tinker with the msdos.sys file. Since it is a hidden file, you must first enable the "view all hidden files and folders" toggle under Tools -> Folder Options -> View and remove its read-only attribute.

Open this file in notepad and add these following lines:

Logo=0

Drvspace=0

Dblspace=0

DisableLog=1

AutoScan=0

Disabling the Logo of Windows, disabling Drivespace-compressed FAT16 drives, disabling the log file, and disabling scandisk will surely make your PC run faster.
