Seagate's 100GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive

The Seagate PHD beside WD's Passport PHD

We recently received this from Millenium Computer Technology Corp., the official distributor for Seagate's retail products in the Philippines.

Coming in variations of 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 and 160GB, this PHD is similar to WD's Passport and Maxtor's OneTouch mini line-up. Running at 5400RPM, the 40GB variant comes with 2MB cache, while the rest ship with 8MB of cache.

In terms of size, the Seagate PHD is slightly smaller in height, but larger in girth and thickness than WD's Passport. The chrome-plated aluminum enclosure seems more rugged than WD's aluminum and rubber enclosure, but the IO ports are left exposed to the elements. As expected, the Seagate PHD is powered via a USB 1.0 and above port, with accomodations for a Y-cable (plugged into another USB port) or external power supply should your ports not have enough juice. Lastly, models with capacities of 100GB and above come with BounceBack Express for quick and easy back-ups.

The 100GB version has a suggested retail price of PhP 9,959.
