We are still far away from COMDDAP, but one of the fair’s major showstoppers, Canon Marketing Philippines, already gave us a glimpse of what to anticipate at their booth this year. After creating some noise in the South during the Davao leg of COMDDAP 2009, Canon focused again its forces in Manila, staging the event dubbed “Canon Future Nation” at Whitespace a couple of days ago in Makati City, in which a total of seven new digital cameras were officially unveiled.
Canon Marketing Philippines President and CEO Mr. Ramon Arteficio made his cordial welcoming remarks amid the members of the press. And who are those guys on stage? Dressed in flashy costumes, they embody the futuristic theme of the affair.
The present meets the future.
Ms. Agnes Fernando, Assistant Director for Consumer Imaging and Information, inviting everyone to explore the new digital cameras that are set to bring delight to the picture-loving Filipino consumers.

Canon PowerShot S90 SRP: PhP 31,950.00
Starting off with the PowerShot range, the RAW-capable G11 and S90 occupy the prosumer space featuring two key innovations: the Dual Anti-Noise System, which makes use of the power of the DIGIC 4 processor to radically improve low-light performance; and a 10-megapixel high-sensitivity CCD sensor that utilizes bigger photodiodes for a more effective per-pixel sensitivity. The G11 stands out with an all-new vari-angle LCD screen and a classic DSLR-like build, while the S90 astounds with its F/2.0 lens packed in a slim and solid form.

Giving a boost to its smart and sophisticated IXUS lineup, Canon introduced two groundbreaking slim cameras: the IXUS 120 IS, tipped as Canon’s slimmest 28mm camera to date; and the IXUS 200 IS, the brand’s first-ever touch panel model. These sexy snappers are armed with 12.1-megapixel sensors, can take 720p HD video clips, and come in a wide range of elegant colors.

Last, but certainly not the least, the most anticipated and talked about newest member of the EOS Digital family, the EOS 7D, met the approval of the local media. Representing Canon’s highest end digital SLR (DSLR) with an APS-C image sensor, the EOS 7D is crafted for the demanding advanced amateur photographer who is willing to invest in the right equipment to achieve the desired results. Powered by two DIGIC 4 processors, the EOS 7D delivers the highest quality images in its class with an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-C size) and user-selectable sensitivity range from ISO 100-6400 (expandable to ISO 12,800). It also features a high continuous shooting rate of 8fps to capture fast-moving action sequences at a maximum burst of approximately 94 shots for large/fine JPEG images and 15 shots in RAW.
As additional attractions for guests, Canon also set up booths, each showcasing a particular product lineup and providing assistance to visitors who would like to have a more personal feel with Canon's latest offerings.
Too many digital cameras, too little time. As expected, we didn’t have enough time to play around with all the cameras during the occasion. Nevertheless, we’re looking forward to getting up close and intimately personal with anyone of them as soon as they hit our spot. Do regularly visit our website or the bookstore near you and stay tuned for a review, either online or print, of any of these delighting snappers from Canon!
Why is Canon local pricing so expensive compared to their foreign or Hidalgo counterparts? I believe that is almost a 20-30% premium Canon PH is looking at for a warranty that they will honor. Kunat!
