Gateway Desktop And Notebook PC Launch: A Night Of Sense And Style At The Embassy

littlelion | 16 July, 2009 14:34

The Embassy Super Club might not be the perfect venue for product launches such as those for consumer PCs. However, that impression would apply only, perhaps, if we live in the early 90’s when computers were mind-numbing and set aside for professionals and enthusiasts.

Showoff. Express. Impress. Without any hint of doubt, Gateway’s product launch revolved around the theme of freedom of expression.

Today, more stylish than ever, consumer PCs, whether in the form of a desktop or a laptop, are a top priority, even in the wishlists of the city’s classiest fashionistas. Hence, we didn’t dare to question the Acer Group when they decided on the Embassy as the launch site of Gateway’s newest, chic line of consumer PCs.

Arriving ahead of schedule, we were delighted to spend some casual moments with Gateway’s charming offerings that had greeted us as we walked to the dance floor.

Because it was all about freedom of expression, Gateway chose some best ways to clearly put the message across all at once --

through abstract painting

and interpretative dancing.

Acer Group Philippines General Manager Mr. Manuel Wong’s short and sweet welcoming remarks marked the arrival of the night’s VIPs -- Gateway's newest consumer PCs. The event was also graced with the presence of representatives from the Acer Group’s leading partners, Intel and Microsoft.

Gorgeous models strutting their stuff prior to the unveiling of new Gateway PCs.

Firing up the line of succession was the smallest of the gang, the LT2000 series, represented by the 10.1-inch LT2002i netbook.

Lying underneath its NightSky black exterior, the LT2002i is powered by the dual core Intel Atom N280 processor, matched with a 160GB hard disk drive and a 1GB memory module.

Like its Cherry Red sister, the LT2003i model, the LT2002i weighs in at mere 1.33Kg.

Another netbook series, the LT3000, is comprised of two eye-catching models –

the LT3102i

and the LT3103i.

Stepping out beyond the conventions of a netbook, the LT3000 series comes with an 11.6-inch display, and has a more powerful concoction of performance specs, composed of an AMD Athlon 64 L110, AMD M690E chipset, ATI Radeon X1270 graphics, and 2GB RAM.

Taking hold of the spotlight this time is the EC3801i notebook, sporting a subtly rounded body draped with smooth lines and sinuous shades.

This 13.3-inch notebook operates with a CULV processor, the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400, complemented by 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 320GB of hard disk storage. Besides keeping you productive with style, it also keeps you connected with the rest of the world through Wi-Fi N connectivity.

Gateway rounds up its current notebook line with the ID series, a part of which is the cerulean ID5804i.

Striking about this model are its tail-fin shaped display and chrome plated accents. This powerful figure of mobility is backed by a formidable set of hardware, consisting of the Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 processor, NVIDIA GeForce G105M GPU, 4GB of DDR3 memory, and 500GB of hard disk space.

If blue is not the color of your choice, the black ID5805i is considerably another tasteful option under the ID series.

Last but the most anticipated, was the sole desktop model, the Gateway SX2800 PC system.

Despite the small form factor outline, the Gateway SX2800 is a media-centric performer running with the Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 320GB of hard drive storage. As a complete package, it comes with a 20-inch Gateway HX2000 LCD monitor.

As the night was still young when the parade of Gateway PCs ended, the party crowd was serenaded by the Philippines’ “Prince of R&B”, JayR.

And later, party animals (included us!) revealed their true colors when darkness and colorful streaks of lights turned everyone's identity into anonymity.

The event was Gateway’s second product launch that we attended for 2009. Even though the brand has been extensively known in the United States, it had a fair amount of publicity in the Philippines in the past. Now after acquiring it, the Acer Group is certainly aggressive in embossing Gateway in the minds of Filipino consumers, and this is a positive step as we can look forward to seeing more exciting options from their assembly line.

Gateway's ID series are the first computers designed by Pininfarina (of Ferrari fame).
