Samsung SyncMaster P2350: A Stunner For The Season

littlelion | 05 May, 2009 12:19

In the same way as Manny Pacquiao is admired as one of the best pound for pound boxers of our time, Samsung Electronics is also revered as one of the world’s largest producers of LCD panels today. The day after the Pinoy puncher had floored his English foe, the Korean chaebol re-proclaimed its market leadership by announcing that it had sold over 10 million large-sized LCD panels in April. Quantity aside, Samsung’s leadership in the business is fortified further by the superb quality of their desktop displays and LCD HDTVs. Browse the Internet and you’ll find that they are amongst the most eye-catching. A solid proof of this is the Samsung SyncMaster P2350.

The overall appearance of the 23-inch P2350 obviously mirrors the public’s positive response to the Touch of Color (ToC) design. To recall, Samsung initially introduced ToC on its high end monitor and HDTV models (T220 and Series 7) last year. ToC features a hint of amber color naturally blended into Samsung’s piano black bezel frame, achieving a blown glass effect. Noteworthy, since Samsung employs a double injection molding, the manufacturing process eliminates the usage of spray paint which is essentially harmful to the environment and human health.

One of the standout specs of the P2350 that you should look forward to is its 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. This feature is particularly essential to those types of users who enjoy watching HD movies on their desktop. Nonetheless, it’s a bit odd for a full HD (1920 x 1080p) desktop display to not have an HDMI connector natively.

Wondering where did the control buttons go? A gentle stroke of your finger on the lower right hand corner of the monitor would certainly stir up its wits and show you what you are looking for.

Moving ahead, let us see how the P2350 fared in our battery of tests.

Beginning with the static tests using the DisplayMate application, we could see here that the P2350 is capable of discerning all degrees of black.

Conversely, it’s a different story when it tried to render the varying levels of white at default settings. Nevertheless, we got better results when we set its contrast level to zero, in which the monitor was able to recognize palettes up to index 245.

The following screenshots show you how the P2350 interpreted a wider mix of colors.

Striding forward to the second round of tests which involves HD playback, we used full HD clips of “Alexander” and “The Living Sea”. In the photo underneath, we could see Samsung’s MagicColor feature while in action. Perceptibly, MagicColor enhances color vibrancy.

However, we realized that MagicColor is a double edged-sword. While it makes considerable improvements to color quality, it causes a conspicuous loss of detail at some points as well.

Evaluating its effect on color quality, MagicColor has more impact on reddish tints than on bluish tones.

In general, from its flawless design down to its remarkable picture quality enhanced by cutting-edge, proprietary technologies, the Samsung SyncMaster P2350 is a sensation for your desktop. While the “Pacman” could knock you out with his lightning speed hooks, the P2350 could stun you simply with its smashing looks.

It really looks like those ToC HDTVs from Samsung but smaller.

It looks like Samsung is putting ToC on their other products as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they release a DSLR sporting ToC.

Actually, Samsung had already released a ToC camcorder. Check that out on the latest blog.

MagicColor makes the red tint stronger, in effect that it covers the minute details of an image.

Speaking of Pacquiao, I just thought that Samsung might want to consider him as an endorser. If I'm not mistaken, I saw in one news channel his son watching his fight with a Samsung HDTV.

If that's the case, Samsung should put stress on the features of the TV that enable viewers to catch every fast action.

MSI-ECS is one of Samsung's top distributors. Perhaps, they have a stock of this monitor. You can call them at (+632) 688-3333. http://www.msi-ecs.com.ph/digimsi?prf=dgcontctus

I've just got a P2450H(pretty much the same display, only 24")
Be aware it's HDMI interface seems to be only optimized for the VIDEO signal, not a PC signal!
When connecting to a PC the picture is pretty bad.
DVI is very good though!
But who known if I some day gets PC/laptop with only a HDMI interface, then I'm fucked!

I really consider to return...thanks good for the 14 days free return policy from my reseller.
