The Asus Eee PC design contest is still ongoing, and I have been following the entries with interest. I couldn’t help but think though, that even someone with my limited skill set and handicapped artistic values would be able to at least make some representations of what an ideal laptop skin could be.

With that thought in mind, I set out to produce some skins I thought would have been appropriate contest material – except for the fact that since I can’t draw, I’m relying on stock images gathered from different sources. Do note though, that the contest is one where you design your entry, so simply take these suggestions and humble ideas as inspiration and make your own winning entries – there’s only 24 days to go before the last day of submission!

 
I started out normally enough – with themes of cityscapes and business proceedings running through my mind. This here is a landscape photo of the Hong Kong skyline. Remember – you have to design your entry – don’t cut – and – paste like I did!

An old wallpaper I had serves as a very good backdrop for your mobile computing. NASA certification anyone?

Anime – inspired artists may want to spice up their Eee PC with a favorite character.

A few art-inspired pieces makes me feel like I’m doing a real good job (really?) – there’s no better canvas for your creative urges than something that can potentially win you a brand new UMPC.

 
Since the Eee PC is basically a small guy in a big laptop landscape, I thought this skin would be pretty appropriate.

Want to make other people stare at your laptop like it’s the most beautiful creation ever wrought in mobile computing? I can’t think of any better way to accomplish that than this skin (at least for a few minutes!)

A couple of computer and circuit based skins stand ready for the techie.

Inspired by its big Asus brother with the car relation – this skin will surely give you a few MHz worth of speed while computing.

Why stop there? – is what I reasoned. To make the illusion complete – it’s a tiny Asus Lamborghini laptop! Should we call it the Gallardo?

Finally, this skin reminds everyone how the Eee PC goes back to basics – with a twist of 21^st tech of course. It is, of course, a Notebook.

So get going and draw up your entry! You stand to bring home your own Eee PC with your own design – and see others buy your design as well! Just remember – these are suggestions – I’m sure you guys can do a lot better!
