Be A Touch Typist In No Time. (Trust Me, It Works!)

LordM | 16 November, 2006 16:46

To be honest, even if I use my computer here in the office for a long time, I still can't seem to be a touch typist. There are times when I just want to go back in time (Grade 7 or so), and take my typing lessons from our teacher seriously.

But alas. We have yet to invent the time machine and I am getting sick and tired of just looking at my keyboard while I am typing this blog entry.

Good thing there are still some programmers who take the time out to provide people with programs that can teach you how to type properly, while having fun at the same time.

Can't Figure Out What's Wrong With Your PC? Diagnose Your Ram

LordM | 15 September, 2006 12:30

I recently had a problem with my PC at home. Sometimes it works okay, but there are some times wherein my PC crashes while I am playing online games. I thought that it was a software problem so I decided to reformat my PC after backing everything up.

However, it didn't really help as my computer still crashed without warning. This prompted me to check everything:

- Latest drivers? Check.

- Video card? (Is the fan running? Is it overheating?) Check.

- Motherboard? (Latest BIOS version?) Check.

- Latest updates for OS? Check.

- RAM? Check.

Hmmm. RAM? Honestly, how would know if your RAM is in tip-top shape or the exact opposite?

Unleash Your Photoshop Skills

LordM | 05 September, 2006 15:49

Well, I do not really have the skills in creating masterpieces using Adobe Photoshop. But, wouldn't it be nice to get some tips from the pros? I accidentaly stumbled upon a website called photoshoptips.net, and this website provides tips on how to maximize the use of Photoshop.

Here is a picture of an image they rendered...

This can be found on their tutorial on how to utilize layer masks and can be found on this link.

Quake 3 - Raytraced!

Admir | 03 September, 2006 19:03

This has been in development for some time now, but we feel it is an important stage for the virtual reality realm. Should it ever reach a time where we can have a real-time raytrace rendering do 30FPS at 640 x 480 in a game (with all glorious reflections, caustics among the numerous modern ray-tracer capabilities) we will have reached yet another important milestone in 3D graphics. Meanwhile, enjoy a demonstration of Quake 3: Ray-traced. How many computers did it take to run this in real time? Well, a couple of years back, they took 20 1800MHz AthlonXPs and placed them in a cluster. Any hardware developments of a RPU (Ray Processing Unit)? Of course! See a prototype here! If you're interested in seeing what this real-time raytracing is about, you can download a working game-like demo coded by Nicholas Chapman.

My Neighbor Are Zombies!

In Case Of Zombies...

If they were true blue undeads back from the grave, you wish you had one of the shotguns shown above, but thank God they only exist in George Romero's movies, and games produced by zombie lovers Capcom and Sega. While computers are generally harmless (unless you die from a severe shock from a bad short or your whole life depended on one), they may become your worse nightmare, that is, if you fear zombies, spam and a dump full of trash. There have been reports by CipherTrust of a global rise of 23% of computers turning into zombie spammers controlled by botnet masters, thanks to the recent Windows XP MS06-040 vulnerability (good thing there's a patch) exploited by the Mocbot worm variant. How serious is this threat? Even the United States' Home Land Security is advising to apply the vaccine to your computers since the discovery of the vulnerability! More information here.

Calling All Developers...

Admir | 14 August, 2006 16:45

A few years back, creating games for console platforms required a set of dedicated talents, specialized tools and a pretty wealthy backer. But the Gates Empire has just released some pretty big tools for practically anyone - students, hardcore developers, graphic artists, modellers, animators - interested in developing for the Xbox360 (and Windows XP platform for that matter). The tool? It's the XNA Game Studio Express. With a bucket full of fresh ideas, and a load of competition, the next two to five years in the gaming scene looks to be very interesting. I Know Where You Live!

Trins08 | 10 August, 2006 18:55

Google Earth has been around since late last year, but it's gaining momentum among the 'net-savvy crowd only recently. In line with sites like Friendster, Fractalcow, Perez Hilton, Suzy Hopper and Bryanboy (among many, many others), word of mouth really does work wonders for websites. (More)
