Check Out The Force On That Home Theater!

Jase | 18 January, 2007 13:53

Remember that old softdrink commercial--back during the days of the remastered Star Wars trilogy, if memory serves? It's the one where this dude in the cinema goes "great effects, man!" while seeing the movie. (If I'm not mistaken, the scene immediately flashes a lightsaber-y color--with matching lightsaber sound effects, of course--then we see the dude's afro quite singed and cut in half.)

What? You don't remember that commercial? Oh well, never mind that then.

Check this out, instead:

You're probably thinking, "So, it's R2D2... So what?" Well, just wait til you see what it actually does:

Still don't get what it is? Well, it's R2D2, alright--it moves around and projects images from his "head". In fact, it is a fully-functional home theater system! This R2D2 made his world debut at the recently concluded 2007 International CES, and is undeniably one of the coolest releases seen at the event (perhaps even arguably the greatest thing in the world for some of us...).

"Developed by a Japanese electronics firm and fully licensed by LucasFilm, it's a functioning R2D2 model that acts as a mini home theatre centre. It has a projector built into the top - just like the real R2 - as well as USB ports, an iPod dock, a DVD drive and component inputs for hooking up to a video source."

Oh, and before we forget, check out its remote control--the Millenium Falcon! How cool is that?

R2D2 will set you back about US$2,500 but definitely scores high on the nostalgia/geek quotient to warrant a second thought. Check out this site for more pictures and a link to what other people think about this literally entertaining little droid.
