Kick Video Game Addiction Subliminally

LordM | 03 April, 2007 18:18

A few entries back, I mentioned that video games are 'addictive.'

Maybe it is, maybe it's not. But the bottom line is, videogames are starting to destroy lives, one level up at a time. However, Koreans might have just found a way to kick the videogame habit...

It MIGHT be possible with the use of subliminal audio techniques...

From the Korea Times article entitled Acoustic Wave Prevents Game Addiction, a Korean company has developed an inaudible sound sequence that "can prevent obsessive use of online games, thus giving hope to game addicts."

According to Xtive President Yun Yun-hae:

"We have incorporated messages into an acoustic sound wave telling gamers to stop playing. The messages are told 10,000 to 20,000 times per second." In addition, he said that gamers will not be able to recognize the sounds, but their subconscious is "aware of them and the chances are high they will quit playing."

Moreover, by using this method of subliminal audio messages, children and young adolescents will stop playing on their own without feeling forced to do so.

It works like this: "Game companies can install a system, which delivers the inaudible sounds after it recognizes a young user has kept playing after a preset period of time." This in turn, will help those Web junkies out there to stop playing.

P.S. The photo above has a purpose: It actually has a subliminal message. Of course, I leave it up to you to figure it out.
