Commentary: dress mEee up! The Asus Eee PC Design Contest

eddard | 06 February, 2008 17:02

The UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer) has never gained enough momentum with mainstream users. This is of course a factor of affordability versus need, and for most people, no immediate task can be worth the thousands of dollars that a normal UMPC demands. The Asus Eee PC is the solution that changes this status quo.

Asus Eee PC design is nice but minimalistic. There's something missing..

With a price most mainstream users can reach, combined with the basic functionality that is all that’s required for most users, the Eee PC makes it a cinch to own a UMPC that’s well designed and distinctive – that is, until everyone in your apartment building, city block, or classroom has one. For this, Asus also has a solution: make your own design for the Eee PC!

Colors? good idea, but Skittles did it first...

Asus is inviting anyone with even a smidgen of creative ability (and even those who think they don’t!) to design and create an Eee PC skin to grace their soon-to-be ubiquitous UMPC. If your submission wins, your own design will be used to produce a special Eee PC line with your masterpiece front and center! Grand prize is a brand new Eee PC finished with your own design, so there’s no time to waste – anyone can join, and you don’t need to own an Eee PC either.

A tatoo? Nah, too "American Chopper", and not so original anymore.

So what are you waiting for? Before everyone and anyone owns the same white-colored Eee PC, start designing and become the proud owner of an Eee PC of your own design – if your design is good enough, your whole block will probably have the same design anyways, but what the heck – you can’t win them all. Take a gander at the contest details below, and watch out for your school bulletins, posters, and print ads for the whole shebang.

This is it! It's your input that's needed! Watch out for this poster!
